14 days till launch: Arcane Synthesis Kickstarter Update

Well folks, it’s 2 weeks till launch! Arcane Synthesis: A Blended-Genre Anthology Kickstarter Campaign is just about ready to line up at the gate! I’ve put in a ton of hours this month alone, but also for the past nearly 6 months, of course, in preparation for Jan 2nd, 2014. All of the story concepts for Arcane Synthesis have been brainstormed and approved. We’ve even done some brainstorming and story reviews with some of the Divine Synthesis Stretch Goal authors. Things are looking great so far, but there’s still a bit more to do on various fronts.

I’ve done a ton of Kickstarter research over the past year plus, and have taken a lot of advice from sharp people that have studied, researched and worked on Kickstarter projects before, like David Winchester over at Caffeineforge and Jamey Stonemaier over at Stonemair Games, both of which are very talented and knowledgeable. And I’ve gotten advice from many others too and have studied current and previous projects, etc. done my homework, in other words.

I recently reviewed and restructured some of the Reward tiers and the rewards themselves, trimming the project down here and there, reducing the number of Reward tiers to make it easier to absorb, consider and navigate the page. I’ve tightened up and reorganized some of the page elements for this purpose also. This process resulted in removing some goodies that might not be as popular as others, simplifying a few things and general polishing. We have some really cool, and some unusual reward types, like Dead By Dawn and our Perks, goodies you won’t tend to see anywhere else.

Dead By DawnI have one more big task to do. For whatever reason, most people are not sitting all the way through any Kickstarter videos. Maybe it’s our society’s ever-shortening attention span, I dunno. But most won’t sit through even a 2-minute video on Kickstarter.com, much less one that is more than 2 minutes (mine is about 3.5 minutes if you count intro and outro + credits).

I do want people to sit through the whole video as I feel it will shed light on what we’re doing and why. So, I’m going to go back in and hack apart our Kickstarter video (not the Cosmothea one you’ve likely seen about our Cosmoverse Campaign Setting) as I’ve had nothing but positive feedback on it, despite its length). A Kickstarter video is a different animal as it is more promotional, than informational in nature, and has to be terribly short or most people won’t bother watching it all or more than 30 seconds in.

Not sure why, but some people won’t even watch a Kickstarter video at all, and some will only watch for 10 seconds. No idea why, since people have no qualms about sitting through much of the trash that’s on TV, but I aim to please, so hopefully by the end of the weekend, I’ll have cut mine down to size… well, close anyway! I do appreciate very much everyone who has taken the time to read through the blog posts, hung out at the forum and discussed the Kickstarter and Cosmothea for that matter, and thanks in advance if you decide to watch through our Kickstarter video till the end!

Anyway, I’ve been too busy to get excited. But drawing near to launch date with two great books planned and 2 teams of very enthusiastic, very talented writers, (for which I’m grateful), I’m am finally starting to get excited!

Of course we still need to get this thing funded to become a reality, and that’s where you come in! If you want to read some great stories, would just like to get a hold of some exclusive Kickstarter-only goodies or other great rewards or are just an investor type looking to fund a realistic, creative dream, Jan 2nd is just around the corner!

I learned something very interesting and important awhile back. As you may know, Kickstarter highlights some projects, essentially giving them some free advertising, a moment in the sun, which helps attract even more backers. But they don’t do it for everyone. They look at one main thing: How many backers can you get during a single day. They don’t care how much funding you receive or how many backers you get over the course of a project. They only look at how many backers you get during a single day. The more people that stand with Arcane Synthesis on Day 1 (or any single day, but Day 1 is the easiest to plan for), the more likely it is that we’ll get the additional advertising to help push the project toward its goal! Even a bunch of people giving just a dollar (and I have several goodies for those that do, believe it or not!), can make a big difference!

So please, spread the word! Tell your friends and family, post on facebook, Twitter, Google+ or whatever, and let’s see if we can make this thing fly! Thanks so much all, for your encouragement, feedback and support as we work our tails off to bring you some great fiction and in the days ahead, more great fiction and RPG goodies you are sure to love!

Have an awesome rest of the week, and if you have any comments or questions, I’d love to hear from you!
